The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has expressed outrage over the assault on Mr. Samuel Addo, a journalist with Class Media Group, who was attacked while carrying out his duties.

In a statement, PRINPAG noted: “This unprovoked attack against a media professional is unacceptable and constitutes a direct violation of press freedom, a right guaranteed under Article 162 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. Any attempt to intimidate, obstruct, or harm journalists in the course of their work undermines the democratic principles upon which our nation is built.”

The Association has appealed to the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of the Interior to take immediate steps to investigate the matter. PRINPAG emphasized that “Those responsible must be identified, held accountable, and subjected to the full force of the law. Delivering justice in this case is essential not only for Mr. Addo but also to affirm that such acts will not be tolerated in a democratic society.”

The group also reminded the public and security agencies of the vital role journalists play in Ghana’s democratic journey. “Media practitioners are partners in nation-building, providing citizens with information and holding power to account. They deserve protection, not harassment,” the statement added.

PRINPAG reaffirmed its support for Mr. Addo and other journalists working under difficult conditions. “We remain committed to safeguarding the rights, safety, and independence of media professionals, and to advocating for a free, safe, and responsible press in Ghana,” the Association stressed.
