“Forgive One Another”: Bawumia makes passionate plea for unity at NPP thanksgiving

The newly elected Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has made a heartfelt appeal to party members to bury the hatchet and forgive all grievances arising from the high-stakes internal campaign season.

Speaking at a National Thanksgiving Service held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the path to victory in the 2028 general elections begins with a unified and reconciled house.

    A Call from the Heart

Addressing a sea of party faithful dressed in white, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that the recent presidential primary—which he won with 56.48% of the vote on January 31—had left some internal fractures.

“On this day as we celebrate and give thanks together, I want to ask all of us, from the bottom of my heart, that we forgive each other for some of the unpalatable things we may have said during the campaign,” he stated.

The Vice President noted that while political competition is inherent to democracy, the “unpardonable behavior” and heated rhetoric often exchanged in the heat of the moment must now give way to brotherhood.

    The Healing Process Begins

The Thanksgiving Service, themed “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving” (Psalm 50:14), served as a spiritual bookend to the party’s internal transition. Dr. Bawumia expressed encouragement at the olive branches already being extended across various factions.

“I have been encouraged by the efforts many of you have made to reach out to your brothers and sisters after the elections,” he added. “Though I know the exercise of healing is not yet completed, I believe we have started well, and I commend all patriots for the steps taken so far.”

    Strategic Reorganization

Beyond the spiritual focus, the message was deeply strategic. Dr. Bawumia reiterated that a divided party cannot effectively challenge for power in 2028. He urged members to:

    ● Discard internal attacks that provide “fodder for opponents.”

    ● Focus on common goals rather than individual grievances.

    ● Demonstrate tangible lessons learned from the 2024 electoral cycle.

The event was attended by top NPP leadership, current and former Members of Parliament, and former government appointees, signaling a broad show of force behind the new flagbearer.
