The World Bank has appraised the management of COVID-19 monies disbursed to Ghana, as emergency support, as satisfactory.

The Breton Wood institution expressed the contentment based on its vigorous supervision and monitoring that followed the monies disbursed.

Taking the world by surprise in 2019, the world economy suffered making economies resort to repression. This necessitated for the Breton Wood institution to give emergency support funds to some countries including other relief programs. The World Bank disbursed about US$435 million to Ghana Government. Out of which US$130 million was for access to vaccines.

“We have robust mechanism for supervising our disbursed funds for projects and programs. So Ghana spending of COVID funds was satisfactory”, Ousmane Diagana, World Bank’s Vice President for Western and Central Africa said a press briefing in Accra on his visit to Ghana.

The visit is to enable Mr Diagana familiarize and assess WB’s financed projects such as the Ghana Tech Hub and Ghana Innovation Hub at the Accra Digital Center and at the Korle Bu Treatment Center.

He used the visit to meet President Akufo Addo and the vice president Dr Mahmud Bawumia together with the finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta to discussion a new country partnership program which is to help address unemployment, inclusive investment gaps, financial supports among other social intervention projects.

WB, since its presence in Ghana in 1957, has active investment of about US$2.9 billion in 25 active projects spreading across all sectors of the economy.
