The Coalition of Muslim organisations, Ghana (COMOG) has called on the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in The Education Sector to discipline the Headmistress of Wesley Girls SHS.

The Muslims umbrella body wants the removal of the headmistress from the school, to deter future occurrence of a subordinate disregarding the GES Code of Conduct.

COMOG at the news conference religious discrimination by ‘some schools and institutions in Ghana’, said, “the GES should as a matter of urgency remove the Headmistress of Wesley Girls SHS from the school to assuage the adverse psychological effects of her presence on the Muslim students”.

General Secretary Lawyer Shahadu Mohammed, further proposed sanctions should apply for the violation of the religious rights of Muslim students of the school in defiance of the directive from the GES.

They also called on the GES to reconstitute the board of the Wesley Girls SHS and further proscribed the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church from being on any board of governors of any Mission School.

They again urged the GES to reconstitute the Board of the Methodist schools to include two Muslims, in order to keep track of any such occurrences and report the same when appropriate.

According to the Group “Government should as a matter of urgency direct the National Peace Council to resubmit their full report on the outcome of the March 30th-31st 2015 National Conference on Religious Tolerance at the Kofi Annan International Centre to Parliament for necessary action in the interest of National Peace”.

They again appealed to GES to issue, between now and next week unconditional directive to the Wesley Girls SHS and other schools within the week to allow Muslim students to observe all the Islamic obligations as it is their right to do so without prejudice to the rights of others.
