President John Dramani Mahama has commended Ghanaians for their unrelenting dedication to national integration and peacebuilding, emphasizing the significance of unity and social cohesion in propelling the country’s development.

Speaking at the Post-Election Evaluation Dialogue, organized by the National Peace Council in Koforidua, Mahama urged citizens to shun divisive tendencies that imperil societal harmony and instead embrace positive commitments that align with democratic values.

He highlighted that these efforts are crucial for strengthening Ghana’s democratic institutions and ensuring lasting peace, noting that the dialogue aimed to build consensus on mechanisms to enhance election integrity, deepen national cohesion, and promote political tolerance. Mahama announced the implementation of a new peace index policy, developed in collaboration with the National Peace Council, designed to deepen national consensus, improve conflict prevention strategies, and foster public trust in democratic institutions.

“I will ensure that all recommendations are submitted to the appropriate institutions, including the Constitution Review Committee, for study,” Mahama assured.

Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, unity, and inclusiveness.

Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, Chairman of the National Peace Council, highlighted proposals from the Post 2020 Election that contributed to the credible and violence-free election in 2024, including enhancing intra-party and inter-party dialogue, adjudication, and sanction regimes to deal with impunity. Mr. Affail Monney, former President of the Ghana Journalists Association, advocated for training workshops for media practitioners to promote peace journalism, focusing on tolerance and collaboration.
