The Coalition of Muslim Organizations Ghana (COMOG) has issued a solemn tribute following the untimely death of Hon. Alhaji Dr. Murtala Ibrahim Mohammed, Member of Parliament, who perished in a tragic plane crash.
In a statement signed by COMOG President Hajj Abdel-Manan Abdel-Rahman, the organization expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late MP as “a dedicated son of the Muslim Ummah” whose service to Ghana was marked by distinction and integrity.
“We offer our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Muslim community,” the statement read. “His leadership and commitment to the development of our nation will be deeply missed.”
COMOG highlighted Hon. Murtala’s enduring support for Islamic unity and values, recalling his active role in backing the coalition’s initiatives to unite Muslim chiefs across Ghana. “His endorsement of our efforts was invaluable,” the statement noted, adding that his recent engagement with a COMOG delegation underscored his passion for the welfare of the Muslim community.
The organization also praised the late MP’s principled stance on moral and cultural issues, particularly his support for the “Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill” in Parliament. “His support for our stance against LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana was also noteworthy,” COMOG stated.
As the Muslim community mourns this significant loss, COMOG offered prayers for divine mercy and comfort: “We pray that Allah grants his soul eternal peace and comfort to his loved ones during this difficult time. May his legacy continue to inspire us to work towards a better Ghana for all.”
