The Minister of Finance has reiterated his commitment to supporting the country’s revenue mobilisation efforts, emphasising the need for increased revenue collection to drive national development.
During a recent working visit to the Osu Tax Service Centre, the Minister met with tax officials to encourage them in their efforts to boost domestic revenue mobilisation. He acknowledged the progress made in expenditure control and the strong performance of the central bank, stressing that revenue collection must now take centre stage.
“I will not obstruct revenue collection, no matter whose ox is gored,” the Minister emphasised, expressing his pain at the need to resort to higher taxes instead of widening compliance and improving collection.
The Minister’s visit was aimed at encouraging tax officials and reassuring them of his support, rather than interfering with their work. He announced plans to deploy new electronic tools next year to enhance revenue collection and intends to dedicate half of his time to supporting the revenue transformation agenda.
“We cannot keep piling taxes on an already burdened taxpayer,” the Minister said, emphasising the need for a fairer, stronger, and more sustainable revenue system for Ghana.
The Minister’s commitment to revenue mobilisation is expected to boost Ghana’s efforts to achieve its development goals and improve the country’s economic outlook.
