EC to Rerun Elections at 19 Polling Stations in Ablekuma North on July 11

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will rerun elections at 19 out of 37 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency on Friday, July 11, 2025. This decision follows extensive deliberations with representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who met with the Commission on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

The rerun has become necessary due to the inability of Presiding Officers to verify 19 scanned polling station results used for collation, despite approval by agents of both parties. The EC stated, “After extensive deliberations, the Commission informed the Political Parties that it would proceed to rerun the election in 19 out of the 37 Polling Stations.”

The Commission’s decision is in response to the contentious issue surrounding the scanned Pink Sheets provided by the NPP, which were used to collate results. The NDC had advocated for a rerun in all 37 polling stations, while the NPP suggested collating results from three outstanding polling stations and declaring a winner.

The EC was able to secure verification and confirmation for 18 scanned Polling Station results, which were approved by agents of both parties. A rerun will therefore not be held in those polling stations. The Commission is counting on the Ghana Police Service to provide necessary security to ensure a safe environment for the conduct of the election.

In a statement signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations, the EC said, “We count on the Ghana Police Service to provide the needed security to ensure a safe environment for the conduct of the Election.” The rerun election is scheduled to take place on July 11, 2025.
