    Story by Lawrence Odoom/Phalonzy

The family of Ernest Kumi, the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency, has attributed his untimely demise to alleged diabolic actions by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to two elderly women linked to the Kumi family, who were featured in a circulating video, the circumstances surrounding his death are shrouded in mystery and concern.

“Ernest Kumi’s passing has left us all in shock. He was a remarkable individual who made a positive impact in the community. His dedication to helping others was inspiring, and his legacy will be deeply missed. He didn’t die a natural death because his time was not yet; the NPP used a spiritual gun to kill him,” one of the women stated. “We voted for him on 7th December and met his untimely demise on 7th July 2025, which is mind-blowing, given that the NPP is already looking to occupy the seat. The Akwatia seat is not a property of the NPP for them to get Kumi killed by someone.”

The family and supporters of the late Ernest Kumi are calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

“The circumstances surrounding his death are concerning, and we hope for a thorough investigation. The Akwatia seat should be filled through a fair and democratic process, respecting the will of the constituents,” they emphasized.

In an interview, a woman who wished to remain anonymous recounted the late Kumi’s numerous court battles during the parliamentary primaries.

“I had a conversation with him last Thursday about potential job opportunities for my child. Unfortunately, his passing has left us shocked. He picks up calls every day, but what I can say is that the NPP is a bunch of selfish party. His story of perseverance, as shared on a radio interview, was truly inspiring. As party members, we’ve stood by him through challenging times, including court battles because the NPP doesn’t support his bid. We’re deeply saddened by his loss and hope his legacy lives on.”

The community is still reeling from the loss, with many calling for justice.

“Those who killed Ernest Kumi, God will punish them and repay their children. God sees through the heart and not what human beings see through the eyes. May justice be served for Ernest Kumi. His contributions to society were truly remarkable, and his untimely passing is a great loss. The community deserves answers and support during this difficult time.”

Some party members have expressed their intention to support the NDC, citing their disillusionment with the NPP’s alleged actions.

“We’re ready to give our unflinching support to the NDC when the bye-election is due. We cannot continue to be in a party made up of a bunch of diabolic minds and selfish desires.”
