The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly, under the leadership of Daniel Dagba, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, RT Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, will on Thursday, 29th and Friday, 30th January 2026, commence a comprehensive sod-cutting exercise for major developmental projects across the municipality.

The sod-cutting ceremonies, which will be jointly performed by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive, mark another significant milestone in the Assembly’s commitment to inclusive growth, accelerated infrastructure delivery, and improved service provision for residents.

Speaking ahead of the exercise, the MP and the MCE commended the government of H.E President John Dramani Mahama for its renewed focus on decentralised development, infrastructure expansion, and the equitable distribution of national resources across municipalities and districts.

Speaking to the media, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Daniel Dagba noted that the projects earmarked for Akatsi South are a clear reflection of the Mahama government’s broader vision of strengthening local governance, improving access to quality education and healthcare, and expanding water and sanitation infrastructure, particularly in underserved communities.

The two-day exercise will cover a wide range of projects spanning health, education, water, and sanitation, strategically distributed across several communities to promote equitable development and shared prosperity.

Key projects to be inaugurated include the construction of CHPS compounds with nurses’ accommodation, multi-unit classroom blocks, teachers’ bungalows, girls’ dormitory facilities, toilet facilities, workshops for technical institutions, and the renovation of existing health facilities. The programme will also feature the drilling and mechanisation of 20 boreholes in selected communities to enhance access to safe and potable drinking water.

According to the MP and the MCE, the movement plan reflects a deliberate and coordinated effort by the Mahama-led government, Parliament, and the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly to address critical infrastructure gaps, reduce pressure on existing facilities, and improve the overall quality of life of residents in line with Ghana’s decentralisation and development agenda.

The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly, working closely with its parliamentary leadership, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the government’s development agenda by ensuring effective supervision, accountability, and sustainability of all projects initiated within the municipality.

Residents, traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and key stakeholders are encouraged to actively participate in the sod-cutting ceremonies as Akatsi South takes another bold step towards accelerated, inclusive, and people-centred development.
