Artisanal fishers’ representatives from Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Togo, and Nigeria are meeting in Accra for a 3-day experience-sharing conference.
The workshop is organized by the Canoe and Fishing Gear Owners Association of Ghana (CaFGOAG).
The gathering aims to formalize the Professional Artisanal Fishers Network of the West Central Gulf of Guinea, facilitating dialogue, cooperation, and participation in regional fisheries governance.
The move follows a resolution by artisanal fishers’ representatives at the 16th FCWC Conference of Ministers in Lagos, November 2025, to establish a sub-regional network.
The network will enhance solidarity and constructive engagement among artisanal fishers, including fish processors, in addressing regional fisheries challenges. Participating organizations include representatives from Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Togo, Liberia, Nigeria, and Ghana.
